Pleural diseases refer to disease of the pleura which is the membrane lining the chest wall and seperating it from the lung. .Pleural effusion is the excess fluid buildup in the space between chest wall and lung and could be related to heart diseases or lung diseases, could be benign or malignant in origin. Other diseases include pneumothorax which is air trapped in that space, hemothorax or blood collection in that space and pleural tumors, most commonly mesothelioma.
